BRINGING TOGETHER AFRICA, EUROPE AND SOUTH AMERICA
First to perform was the National Folk Dance Ensemble Les As Du Benin from Benin which is celebrating its 21st anniversary. They became guards of their cultural heritage and the ambassadors of their country. They introduced voodoo as a light and positive religion and performed stunts in colourful costumes. The group was accompanied by a bad that created African rhythms by using drums. Later, we moved to Serbia. Ensemble Narodnih igara i pesama KUD Sevojno performed dances from Šumadija, eastern Serbia and Pirot – southern Serbia. Last to perform was the group C.I.D.A.N. Mi Peru from Peru. The dancers introduced colourful symbols of Peru, such the Incas, the Andes, Lake Titicaca, alpaca, llama, Amazon and their newest dance – the dance of the geese.
After the show, artistic directorof KUD Sevojno Đorđe Delić said: “We cooperated with the ensembles from Benin and Peru that are both very interesting. We have already performed at Lent in 2003 but we were a guest performer at the closing ceremony of Folkart. We arrived to Slovenia three days ago and today was our first performance at this excellent festival. We are more than happy with the organization, the conditions, everything. Maribor is a beautiful city and you can see numerous interesting things.”
Folkart delivered again! By mixing three traditions it reminded the visitors of the beauty of human races.
