It was in Rijeka where he founded his first band La Bellona as the bassist and main songwriter. In 1986 Urban was part of another band as a vocalist, Laufer, one that defined the Croatian rock scene of the early 1990s and attracted the attention of Croatian rock lovers and the media. Laufer released their first album, The best of, in 1993.Their second album, Pustinje, was released in 1994, shortly after which the band disbanded due to differences over the musical vision Laufer was to follow. \n\nDamir Urban released his first solo album in 1996, entitled Otrovna kiša (Poison Rain), to critical and commercial acclaim. The album produced hits such as "Astronaut", but the highlight of his career was yet to follow.\n\nIn 1998, he released Žena dijete (Woman-Child) to even greater critical and commercial acclaim, and the album spawned a string of number ones: "Mala truba", "Odlučio sam da te volim" and "Black Tattoo" (which features the Split hip-hop group The Beat Fleet).\n\nIn 2004, Urban recorded and published his third album called Retro. With this album Urban returned to his rock-roots and presented a mature and professional level of making music. For the song “Mjesto za mene” the group was nominated for Best Acts-MTV Adria at the MTV European Music Awards.\n\nUrban & 4 released their new album, Hello, in 2009. The album was produced by Chris Athens (Coldplay, Erykah Badu, Beastie Boys, Johnny Cash). It was embraced by the critics and was described as a lyrically very intimate declaration.
