Where the Lent nights come to an end

We have visited the festival venues where you can enjoy yourself until late at night when the happenings at the promenade along the Drava river are over.

“Minoriti”, once the most popular festival spot during the night, has now been replaced by the Old radio venue with its jam sessions of Jazzlent, Satchmo with the Mladina stage and its electronic program, and the living courtyard on Orožnova 7. This is the triangle that was very active and productive last night as well.

Last night metalcore fans were smashing at the Mladina stage together with Silence Before from Maribor and Before the Murder from Prekmurje. Maribor proved that it has ears for the hardest sounds of modern music as well because the packed Satchmo club was jumping up and down to the gills. “Today it’s hot here. I think it’s because of you. Bravo, Maribor,” the completely soaked singer David Valh was screaming. In the meantime on Orožnova you could listen to more dancy melodies of the courtyard’s house band Samson. Balkan and Oriental rhythms, old and new songs … The homeliness of the courtyard and colourfulness of its content soon blended into an interesting night. The calmest place to spend a Lent night is Jazzlent, where you can rest your ears listening to creative sounds of jazz improvisation. The music varies from demanding harmonies for jazz lovers, to dancy, “silly” compositions, which make everyone smile. The jam sessions at the Old radio are often visited by performers from other stages – last night you could find some members of Osibisa jamming there.

„Maribor gets a real party district during this time,“ Marko, a frequent visitor of the festival, explained to us in a good mood. „It stretches from here, to Jazzlent and KGB, over the marketplace to Satchmo, Orožnova, Tildos and Poštna street. There are plenty of possibilities for late parties,“ he added and disappeared into the night.

This weekend the mentioned venues will be busy too. The courtyard on Orožnova will open its door today at 21:30 with the performance of Prva gimnazija called “Remembering a murder”, as well as tomorrow at 20:30 with the concert of The Mad Ones and Mushrooms and an open stage afterwards for all music enthusiasts. The Mladina stages starts at 23:00 – today you can listen to the concert of Ewok and New Wave Syria and enjoy the after-party with DJ MRKVNJ, on tomorrow’s menu are Karmakoma and two excellent DJ connections Beatmyth and Safari Kru. The jam sessions usually start at midnight, straight after the theatre plays or concerts on the Old radio stage. Today you can listen to Groove Directions and tomorrow to the Jazzladies.
