FROM STREET PERFORMANCES TO LEGENDARY BANDS

Opening of street performances was followed by the revival of Patetico and unforgettable reggae rhythms.

During the week, we will be able to admire street performers at streets and squares of Maribor. Yesterday, Slovenska ulica street was full of charming women from Iran that introduced an important part of Islam history in their performance Persian night. They wanted to inform people about Persian culture and create foundation for mutual understanding. "We wanted to show people what a Persian night looks like so they can feel, smell and taste it. We carry a message of peace with us. We are a friendly nation and we want to spread that belief among other cultures. That is why we represent our culture and people in a different way than they are portrayed in the media,” they told us after the performance. They introduced a story from the book Šahname that is full of drama, history and myths.

Later, Spiegel tent offered an unforgettable concert for all Patetico fans. The band exclusively performed at Lent after a long break. "It is always wonderful performing at Lent since the festival has a special atmosphere. I think the performers like to return and the results are always good. We love coming back and we are happy we were invited,” said singer Nika Perunović. According to the band, they have no plans for the future. However, judging from the number of their fans, they should.

Musical treat of the night was the concert at the Main stage. Jamaican Legends & Bitty McLean combine the biggest names of reggae music of all times. The 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence they decided to introduced their work to the world. The band consist of guitarist Ernest Ranglin, one of the pioneers of popular music in Jamaica, pianist Tyrone Downie, member of Bob Marley’s cast during the seventies, drummer Sly Dunbar, bassist Robbie Shakespeare and singer Bitty Mclean, who joined them at some of their performances. "You have to love what you do and believe in love and energy. There always is a light at the end of the tunnel,” said Robbie Shakespeare. "Music heals, without music there would be no world," believes Robbie that wrote over 200 000 songs with drummer Dunbar. "We are all artists in some way. Be creative, nothing comes easily. Do not give up," was his message for young artists.
